TED talk Your body language shapes who you are

In the TED talk “Your body language shapes who you are” by Amy Cuddy talks about the power of being able to fake it till you become it.  During the speech she describes how you can motivate yourself by holding yourself in a powerful pose. Throughout the speech Cuddy moved around the stage while using hand gestures and standing very confidently.  The main idea of this study was that you can change your state of mind, by the way you think of yourself, and you can change the way you think of yourself by the way you hold yourself. She used many different speaking techniques of appealing to the emotion of people when she told the story of her personal past. But what the biggest thing in her speech was that the knowledge deserves to be shared.

TED Talk Once Upon a School

In the ted talk “Once Upon a School” by Dave Eggers he exposes the problem that he notices in his society, children are unable to receive extra help because the ration of students to teacher was to high. To fix this problem he, being a writer, gets some of his colleges together to help children after school get help by professional writers. He explained how the business came to be, sharing the ups and downs. Dave also shared stories, some of them funny, about how the front of the business became a pirate shop. Through out the talk he said the word “um” so much that it caused the listener stop focusing on the topic but more on how many times he said um. He also continuously was fidgeting with his hands, distracting the audience. The thing that matters in his TED talk was that he made a difference in the world because he made a connection that could help better kids lives.

Mini Saga

He knew he shouldn’t have done it.  Just the way it made him feel, bad, guilty, confused, he knew it was wrong so why did he do it.  What’s done is done; he walked on the field and played. At half time his coach was praising him, should he tell?

TED talk The Puzzle of Motivation

The TED talk “The Puzzle of Motivation” by Daniel Pink it presents the case of how carrots and sticks, if then rewards, don’t work enough of the time to base a society on it. Daniel Pink starts the talk off by telling the listener to act as if this is a case, and to listen to the facts.  The speaking technique of telling the listener to look as it from a different perspective is intrigue to the listener, causing them to want to know why. Throughout the talk he only spoke in true facts, not in stories, he got very excited about what he was saying, making the listener want to hear why he was so enthusiastic. Pink presented facts supporting the idea that people do worse when offered a reward, when people work with the ROWE (Results Only Work Environment) where they work when they want if they want as long as they have a product. If we could bring this system to the rest of society in the United States we can get past Carrot and Stick, fix our businesses, and we can change the world.
