Kony 2012

“Kony 2012” viral video by Jason Russell illustrates the creator’s passion for humanitarian work and his efforts to raise public awareness for the current troubles in Uganda.  Russell ‘s video announces there is a terrible problem in the world. Russell travels to Uganda and video’s a young boy named Jacob. Jacob shares his experiences and knowledge of Kony’s rebel army. Jacob is running for his life and worries he could be abducted like other children and forced to be a sex slaves or a soldier. This is a fate so frightening boys such as Jacob prefer to die before enduring a life under the control of the rebels. Russell suggest the way to save these children is to make Joseph Kony known to the world.  The video is a call to action for Americans to encourage the United States government to intervene in Africa.

The video promotes growth and awareness among young people.  After watching the video Kony 2012 by Jason Russell is really put the point in my head that “Where you live shouldn’t decide whether you live.” After realizing that this has happened to over 30,000 kids it shows that there is a serious problem going on that can’t be ignored. Knowing that the only way to stop Kony is to make him known to the world is scary when 99% of the world doesn’t know who he is. This video makes me want to go out and help these children to have a better life where they want to live.
